Let's demand the change we need!
passionate, progressive, and ready to listen
My name is Konstantine Malakos and I am the federal NDP candidate in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell.
Since the last election it feels as though so much has changed, but what COVID has really done is shine a light on and exacerbate the systemic problems that have been around for a long time. Things were always this precarious but it took a global pandemic for us to see it.
I will work hard for this community. I believe in principled, and accountable representation that puts constituents first. I believe in strong environmental policy for the future of our planet. I believe in the fundamental equality of all genders, races, sexual orientations and religions. I believe that wealth inequality and the disparity between the richest and poorest Canadians is a fundamental moral failure. It offends me that while so many small businesses have been forced to shut their doors, and so many people have suddenly found themselves unemployed, the billionaires have had some of their best quarters ever during this pandemic. I believe in housing as a right.
I believe that reconciliation needs to be more than a slogan, and that it is an insult to Indigenous people that many are living without basic amenities or safe housing.
I believe in real protections for our farmers and standing against trade deals that put the interest of investors and governments ahead of the interests of those working hard to produce our food. I am against opening the door to American milk in the revised Canada, United States, Mexico agreement because I believe in our safety standards and know that milk coming from a nation without our supply management system hurts the bottom line of our farmers. There is a new president in the White House and the Canadian federal government has an opportunity to renegotiate a lot of these awful deals that have hurt us. We need a government willing to do so.
